Barossa's creative vision
26 Aug 2026When Barossans were asked what arts, culture and heritage meant to them, their answers painted a vivid picture of a proud community that celebrates its people, creative passions and aspirations.
More than 350 people shared their thoughts last year during The Barossa Council’s initial Barossa Arts, Culture and Heritage Strategy community engagement process. Those voices helped shape the draft strategy, out now for final community feedback.
“This is a strategic framework that will guide Council's role in supporting arts, culture and heritage well into the future, so we want to make sure it’s right for our community,” Mayor Bim Lange explains.
We’ve heard what you’ve said, and this draft is the result.
"Now we have a final opportunity to make some small tweaks if needed, before the document is presented to Council in October.”
Mayor Lange said the Barossa Creative Industries Centre is positioned at the heart of the new strategy as a hub for creative development and cultural engagement.
“It’s where all six goals identified within this strategy align, where everything our community has identified as important about Barossa life, converges in one spectacular space.”
But Mayor Lange said the strategy goes beyond the walls of an impressive new building. It reaches out across the entire region and builds on our proud history, rich First Nations Heritage and global reputation for food and wine.
“The strategy will guide future decisions and help build important partnerships that foster wellbeing, inclusion and connection across every corner of our community, while tying in neatly with both our Community Plan and recently endorsed Wellbeing and Inclusion Plan.”
The community is encouraged to read the draft Barossa Arts, Culture and Heritage Strategy on Council’s website or at one of its branch offices/libraries, before providing feedback either online via barossa.sa.gov.au; via email barossa@barossa.sa.gov.au or in writing to PO Box 867, Nuriootpa SA 5355.
