Shared trail on track

A project helping to bridge a gap for cycling enthusiasts has moved up a gear after The Barossa Council received a $100,000 grant through the State Government’s Bicycle Fund.

The grant has doubled funds allocated in Council’s 2025/26 budget earmarked to construct a three-metre wide, rubble-based shared trail along the old rail corridor between Council’s Boundary at Randell Road and Seagers Road, Mount Pleasant.

The Barossa Council Mayor Bim Lange said Council is finalising a native vegetation report and has consulted with nearby landholders, with works expected to begin at the end of the year, subject to approval from the Native Vegetation Council.

“We’re also waiting for the outcome of an additional grant which, if we’re successful, will allow us to upgrade the trail surface to asphalt,” Mayor Lange said.

The shared path will deliver health, social, recreational and economic benefits to Mount Pleasant and the broader South Australian community.

“It’s all about providing another opportunity for people to get active and enjoy the great outdoors,” Mayor Lange added.

“Ultimately, it contributes to the health and wellbeing of our community. It’s also another link in the big-picture vision for the Great Australian Wine Trail which will benefit our entire region.”
