Native Plant Giveaway
Our 2026 Native Plant Giveaway has now closed, but it will be back next year!
In collaboration with the Barossa Bushgardens, The Barossa Council has now given away more than 6,500 free native tubestock plants to Barossa residents, helping more native plants find a home in gardens right across our region.
The annual giveaway is about more than adding a little extra green to your backyard. Planting a diverse range of locally suitable native species helps strengthen biodiversity, create habitat and food sources for native wildlife, and build healthier, more resilient local ecosystems.
Native plants play an important role in supporting healthy soil, clean air and water, climate regulation and the unique plants and animals that make the Barossa home.

Benefits to planting natives
There are many benefits to planting natives. Incorporating natives on your property can:
- provide food resources and habitat for native birds, insects and small mammals
- support living organisms within the soil (soil biota)
- improve biological diversity (biodiversity), building environmental resilience
- help boost drought tolerance, needing less water once established
- attract natural predators to production such as crops and vines
- require less maintenance
