Williamstown youth to get creative

The next phase of an exciting youth pilot initiative will transform spaces in Williamstown into a canvas of self-expression as Council installs a practice public art wall and delivers a series of free, hands-on street art workshops.

Working with professional artist, Simon K Burt, the initiative includes seven free workshops for Williamstown youth, aged 15-30, designed to spark creativity, build confidence and develop real artistic skills.

Participants will learn the tools of the trade and put them into practice on a newly installed public art wall at the Williamstown Pump track (behind the Williamstown Hotel).

The workshops will take participants on a journey from concept to reality, ending in the creation of a large-scale artwork on the Victoria Creek toilet block, leaving a visual and lasting impact for the Williamstown township.

Due to limited places, participation priority will be given to young people (aged 15-30) who live in Williamstown. Council encourages anyone outside of Williamstown, but still interested in the project, to register to join the waitlist.

Council has engaged with local youth and the community to develop this co-design project to foster creativity, connection and positive social engagement and divert from illegal graffiti activity.
