What’s square, has yellow signs and is making a difference to Lyndoch locals and the environment?

A newly installed bin to collect 10 cent recyclable containers of course!

Located under the tree near the town’s Village Green pergola on Barossa Valley Way, the bin is part of a twelve-month trial by The Barossa Council encouraging recycling while contributing to a more sustainable region.

It also represents a new partnership with the Lyndoch Community Committee whose members are taking it in turns emptying the bin each week to collect the proceeds.

Steve Balch, Chair of the Lyndoch Community Committee, said all money raised will support local events and help create a more vibrant town.

“One of the things we did recently, for example, was put the Lyndoch Mural on the wall here. We are trying to raise the profile of the town, particularly now that we have things like Gather Round coming,” Steve said.

“So, as a committee, we are very excited to have this. We’ve had recycling baskets, but they are open to people coming in and helping themselves.”

When Council asked whether the committee would be interested in participating in the trial, Steve said there was no hesitation in saying yes.

“I’m always a great believer that people shouldn’t always expect things for nothing. Given this makes a contribution to the community, and the fact that we have to put a little bit of effort in, means Council doesn’t have to be taking on another role to come and clear the bin all the time.

“We can do that and take the cans and bottles away, so we are very happy to collaborate.”
