Spotlight on Angaston for Santos Tour Down Under
1 Jul 2026The Barossa will again host a stage start and finish when the Santos Tour Down Under returns in January next year.
This time round, the spotlight will be focused on Angaston, and The Barossa Council Mayor couldn’t be more thrilled that the region has retained such a prominent role in the internationally acclaimed cycling event.
“It’s great to see the race moving around to other towns, and a refreshed route that still incorporates the broader region,” said Mayor Lange.
“Last year’s event was a huge success with some local businesses having their biggest day. The crowd, the atmosphere, the economic benefit the race brings - what’s not to love?”
The Barossa is set to host Race Day 2 – Men’s Stage 2 on Wednesday, January 20, with three laps of a 50km loop starting and finishing in Angaston.
The 145.6km circuit will visit towns including Tanunda, Greenock and Nuriootpa with a 5km gradual uphill finish to suit the sprinters.

“The Barossa landscape and typography lends itself to cycling and when the Santos Tour Down Under is in town, pictures are beamed across the world! Our road networks, our cycling paths coupled with some of our off-road experiences through forestry and everything else - these are all drawcards for tourists.
“It all contributes towards us being recognised as a premium tourism and events destination.”
Council is looking forward to working with local businesses and community groups to ensure the event attracts a good crowd for the duration of the race.
“Angaston is a vibrant village which has proven to be popular and very successful in the past for hosting a race start and finish. It’s not only a great opportunity to showcase the town, its food and hospitality, the race finish is always exciting in Angaston!”
