Sealing the way
14 Oct 2024The school run is set to become much smoother after Council gave the thumbs up to sealing Neldner Road at Tanunda.
Approximately 970 metres of the gravel road will be upgraded with spray seal at a cost of $350,000 with funds brought forward from the 2025-26 financial year.
Mayor Bim Lange said Council decided to seal the section because of the connectivity value Neldner Road provides to the neighbouring school and expanded recreation precinct.
Drawing in traffic from the south, its “social priority” score increased following a recent road classification assessment.
Council has been looking at ways to try and shift traffic away from the intersection of Menge and Magnolia Road as well as the Murray Street turn-off onto Magnolia Street at the pedestrian crossing.
“By sealing Neldner Road and encouraging its use as a circuit or loop for drivers during the busy school pick-up period, we’ll achieve that.”
Life-long Magnolia Road resident Shane Kraft made a presentation to Council raising concerns about the road.
“We’re very grateful for the outcome,” Shane told Mayor Lange when he visited the site during the afternoon school rush.
“We’ve got two schools, The Rex and now the new Rugby pitch, so the traffic flow has increased over the years,” he added.
“Parents come up Magnolia Road and do u-turns here to pick up and drop off their kids on the school side. So hopefully, when Neldner Road is sealed, they’ll do a round trip.”
