New location for Barossa Regional Gallery
24 Feb 2025A re-imagined Barossa Regional Gallery is set to open in a new Tanunda location.
Thanks to the Barossa Valley Archives & Historical Trust, Barossa Museum shopfront will be the venue for a pop-up Gallery and Shop from April.
It comes as The Barossa Council prepares for construction of the new Barossa Creative Industries Centre at the site of Tanunda Soldiers’ Memorial Hall and Barossa Regional Gallery on Basedow Road.
The Barossa Council’s Team Leader Arts and Culture, Rowena Sloane, says everyone associated with the Gallery is grateful for the new, albeit temporary, home in Tanunda.
“We are thrilled to be hosted in a main street frontage in Tanunda in a historic location that has so many synergies with arts, culture and heritage,” Rowena says.
The Museum, like the Gallery, is dedicated to preserving and showcasing the Barossa’s rich history and heritage, and we couldn’t think of a more fitting location to continue sharing those Barossa stories and traditions.
Curated storytelling and interpretive displays will complement the Museum’s collection, alongside a dedicated Gallery Shop featuring artisan wares made by local and South Australian artists and makers.
BVAHT secretary Don Ross looks forward to co-locating museum and gallery activities, which he expects will enhance visitation and the visitor experience.
“It’s to our advantage because the museum will be open more often and it certainly opens up the possibility for people to come who otherwise may not have,” Don says.
Mayor Bim Lange says the new collaboration reflects the generosity that’s synonymous with the Barossa community.
“The goodwill shown by Barossa Valley Archives & Historical Trust to host the Gallery reciprocates the many ways the Tanunda Soldiers’ Memorial Hall has been home to community and cultural activities over many generations,” he says.
“This is a great outcome that ensures the continuity of Gallery services and ensures visitors can continue to experience our rich Barossa arts and culture.”
Gallery activities at the current Basedow location are expected to cease at the end of March.
From April, the Barossa Museum and pop-up Gallery Regional Gallery and Shop will be open 10am to 3pm Monday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
