Inquiry Report - Town of Gawler Boundary Change Proposal
26 Aug 2025The Barossa Council has been advised that the South Australia Local Government Boundaries Commission has completed its inquiry into the Town of Gawler’s Boundary Change Proposal.
Council acknowledges the Commission's recommendations regarding the proposed realignment of Council boundaries, including a recommendation that Concordia Growth Area move from The Barossa Council to Town of Gawler, contrary to the independent consultants’ recommendations and findings.
“Council is concerned the Boundaries Commission’s recommendations to the Minister do not align with the independent investigator’s recommendations, which supported the Concordia Growth Area remaining within The Barossa Council boundary, but we need time to analyse the position and seek further information and clarity from a range of stakeholders.”
“Council has taken a proactive approach, undertaking significant forward planning to prepare for the development, management, and servicing of the Concordia Growth Area. We are concerned the proposed boundary changes could create uncertainty for residents, particularly given the extensive planning already undertaken by Council for infrastructure, services and community needs in Concordia. We believe The Barossa Council is well placed to act as custodian of Concordia and remain committed to working collaboratively with the Minister and stakeholders to ensure the best outcomes for our community.”
