Green light for growth strategy

The Barossa Growth and Infrastructure Investment Strategy has been given the green light, paving the way for potential new supply of employment land at Nuriootpa as well as residential infill in Nuriootpa, Angaston and Tanunda.

The Barossa Council has supported a two-phased approach so it can move forward with immediate priorities in the Strategy, while allowing further investigation into proposals that received mixed support during community consultation.

The rezoning of Kroemer Crossing to Tourism Development, which has been widely debated in the community, has been identified within phase two to allow for further investigation into this proposal.

Mayor Bim Lange says after two years of consultation and engagement, Council and key stakeholders have a blueprint for future growth in the Barossa.

“This is a holistic planning strategy for the next 30 years,” Mayor Lange says.

“It gives Council, community and importantly, potential investors, the confidence that new development and growth can occur in a way that is considered, sustainable and forward-focused.

“The Strategy is also a key lever to support the Greater Adelaide Regional Plan to deliver much-needed housing supply and employment.

“I’d like to thank the community and peak bodies for their valuable input, so that the Strategy reflects community sentiment as well as meeting our strategic aims.

A critically important recommendation in the Strategy is the proposal to rezone land for employment north of Sturt Highway, to the west of the current service centre zoned land, which will be further investigated.

Other proposals to be explored in phase 2 are focused on tourism and employment outside of townships.

Several proposals were shelved entirely, including increased building heights above current policies in main streets, developing reserves in Lyndoch and rezoning employment land in Angaston.
