Double the fun
8 Dec 2025More fun times have been unlocked in the Barossa with two new playgrounds now officially opened.
Funded by The Barossa Council, children at both Springton and Eden Valley gave their ticks of approval to the latest play spaces, following ribbon cutting ceremonies held at each location.
The Eden Valley playground, installed in the grounds of the Murray Recreation and Caravan Park, represents an investment of $155,000 and includes a new basketball ring and court, plus all-access play options such as harness swings and activity panels.
Springton’s new play space is located on land owned by the Springton Progress Association and represents an investment of $180,000. It includes similar all-access play options as Eden Valley with the addition of a new barbecue, turfed area and safety fencing.
And, in a Barossa first, both playgrounds feature Auslan communications boards, offering a more inclusive space for the deaf community.
Bethany Poole was among the first children to try out the Springton Playground during the community opening event where Springton CFS also cooked a free sausage sizzle to celebrate the occasion.
She loved the new play experience.
It's a lot better than the old one and a lot more inclusive with the swings. There's so much more equipment!
Mayor Bim Lange said the new spaces were designed following extensive community consultation which included face to face meetings held at each site early in the planning phase.
“We now have two playgrounds that reflect the very feedback local residents provided,” Mayor Lange said.
“They wanted play options suitable for all ages and abilities, meaning children can remain active and entertained for longer, and we’ve delivered.”
Mayor Lange also acknowledged the work and expertise of Council’s own internal depot crews, including Civil, Arboriculture, Open Spaces and Town Maintenance teams who contributed to the projects.
“Their skill set has enabled this high-quality outcome and kept the cost of using external labour down.”
