Delivering Concordia's Future

The Barossa Council has welcomed the State Government’s finalisation of the Code Amendment for Concordia Growth Area, incorporating the release of the Concept Plan.

After many years of collaborative efforts this is a major milestone, and Barossa Mayor Bim Lange congratulates the Malinauskas Government and Minister Champion, and his team, in reaching this point.

The release of details on the Concordia Basic Infrastructure Scheme is also welcomed, as this represents a novel approach by State Government in ensuring essential infrastructure is planned and funded in-step with development.

Importantly the Concordia development will unlock vital new housing supply for the future and delivery of essential public services to the area to support 12,000 new homes and up to 30,000+ residents over the next 30 years.

Mayor Lange said the release of the Code Amendment is the key legislative vehicle to developing Concordia and acknowledged the significant forward planning of the State Government.

“The Barossa Council has worked tirelessly to support the State’s vision for Concordia. We welcome the continued progress toward the release of much needed land for housing supply in the region and a considered approach to long-term planning and infrastructure delivery.

“Council has partnered with stakeholders in planning for delivery of critical community and social infrastructure which complements the State’s Infrastructure Scheme. This includes extensive advocacy and negotiations to ensure adequate provision of social infrastructure including recreation, sporting, administration and cultural.

“Our understanding is that the State Government is planning for the long-term delivery of critical State infrastructure including education, emergency services and the like.

“We will continue to advocate in the best interests of our community when it comes to the level of infrastructure required for creating a self-sustaining, viable and healthy community, now and in the future.”

Mayor Lange said it was pleasing to see numerous shared path networks through the site and connecting to Council’s already existing assets, as well as multiple precincts providing for better liveability outcomes for the residents of Concordia.

Rezoning the land was a key deliverable in the Premier’s Housing Roadmap, with work in Concordia expected to begin by 2027 and the first homes constructed by 2029.
