A generous Barossa
9 Dec 2025When Stacy Modra from the Barossa Visitor Centre delivered four boxes filled with donations received from community members and Council staff for Lutheran Care's annual Christmas Hamper program, there was a hive of activity in St. Petri Lutheran Church Hall.
It was collection day and Louise Hickinbotham, Lutheran Care's Emergency Financial Assistance Coordinator, along with a room full of volunteers, were accepting boxes filled with donations from churches, community groups, businesses, schools and more.
Always grateful and amazed by the generosity of the Barossa community, Louise said around 100 volunteers will package the donations this week, ready to be delivered in time for Christmas.
"This year, we have over 330 families requesting assistance in the region, last year there were 307," she said, describing the ever-growing need.
"We are also packing 500 children’s gifts and supporting a remote community in the APY Lands this year, with five hampers being sent up there too."
