A field worth working in

A campaign pushing for new Independent Contractors has concluded with an information and networking session that not only attracted a full house, but also inspired people to discover why being and IC is “more than just a job”.

In the eight weeks leading up to the “Contractors Who Care” main event held at Lyndoch Hotel, The Barossa Council profiled individuals already working in the field.

Each told of why they chose to become an IC, the ease of setting up for the role, the purpose they now find in their work life and the flexibility they enjoy.

Their inspiring stories (which can be read here) were again highlighted at the information session which discussed the need for urgent growth in the sector and the large increase in local residents requiring in-home services.

Included among the dozen guest speakers, were Council’s Manager Development Services, Aaron Curtis who discussed the regional growth strategy and economic development picture; Barossa Regional University Campus Manager, Kate Goodes, talking about local support available for students; Angie Kruger, Manager Education Partnerships TAFE, training and education opportunities; Anita Mariani, Regional Development Manager, RDA and Bridgette Hasting, Southern Business Alliance, who spoke about the business support available locally. Accountant, Johan Czanik, also stressed the importance of planning to improve profit and cash flow to build a stronger more sustainable business.

Whilst information about what needs to be considered, number crunching and small business coaching were important subjects to hear about, it was Wendy Gladigau, a Barossa Council Home Assist client, who painted the most heart-felt picture of how Independent Contractors and Contractor Companies change lives.
