Disability Access and Inclusion Plan
June 2026 Update
The new State Government Disability Inclusion Plan was released in August 2025. Inclusive formats of the State Plan can be found on the Inclusive SA website - LINK here.
As part of the Wellbeing Project, the new Disability Access and Inclusion Plan (DAIP) is being incorporated into Council’s Wellbeing and Inclusion Plan.
The Community Development team continues to engage in informal conversations with our disability community to listen and understand their needs as part of this work.

The Barossa Council Disability Access and Inclusion Action Plan 2020- 2024 (extended to 2025) remains in effect while the new Wellbeing and Inclusion Plan is being finalised. You can download the current plan from the link below.

Background
We collaborated with the Town of Gawler, Light Regional Council, and Adelaide Plains Council to develop the Barossa, Light and Lower North Regional Disability Access and Inclusion Plan (Regional DAIP) 2018-2023 which aims to improve access for all to Council services and facilities and to increase the opportunities for people living with disability that live, work, play, volunteer and visit the region. It acknowledges that disability is a natural part of human diversity and that people with disability are to be included in all aspects of life.
Many residents participated in the workshops and/or completed the community survey. Feedback received from the workshops and the survey contributed to the development of the Regional DAIP.
The Regional DAIP was endorsed by Council at the April 2018 meeting. An addendum was added in June 2021 to reflect the 2018 legislated requirements for local governments to have DAIPs - this document is linked below as background information. A 2024 version of the Action Plan was extended in 2025 and can be found in the link below.
