Parking in the Barossa region
The Barossa Council provides on-street parking to meet the needs of the community and visitors.
Parking rules help make the most of limited space and aim to be fair for everyone – residents, businesses and visitors. These rules are guided by South Australian laws, including the Australian Road Rules and the Road Traffic Act 1961.

Parking signs their meaning
Temporary and special parking conditions
Temporary Signs
For events or roadworks. These signs override permanent signs.
Road Markings
Yellow lines or marked bays highlight rules. Signs take priority over road markings when both are present.
Solid yellow road marking has the same effect of a ‘no stopping zone’ sign.

Parallel Parking
Always park in the direction of traffic. Keep your wheels close to the kerb.
Offence: Section 208(1) of the Australian Road Rules – Fail to park parallel – 2025/2026 - expiation amount $84.00
Angle Parking
Always park at the angle shown by signs or road markings.

Responsibility for expiation notices
Registered owner of vehicles are responsible for any parking expiations. If someone else was driving, the vehicle owner must submit a statutory declaration with full driver details.

Weekend and visitor parking
Always check signs, rules in ‘no stopping’, ‘bus’, ‘no parking’, or Loading Zones still apply on public holidays unless signs say otherwise.
