Join Rae Howell, the current Barossa Women’s Artist-in-Residence, for an engaging presentation about her creative journey.
An accomplished composer, performer, piano technician and installation artist, Rae’s work draws inspiration from the natural world and from the instruments themselves — from the buzz of bees to the inner workings of the piano.
In this informal talk, Rae will share the story of her latest project, The Piano: Hook, Line & Tinker, a large-scale ‘exploded-view’ suspended piano installation that reveals the instrument’s intricate mechanics and the lifetime of music it carries.
Learn how her career has taken her across the globe, collaborating with scientists, artists and musicians, and why her residency in the Barossa — home to the historic 1877 Hill & Son Grand Organ — is a vital step in the project’s development.
The session includes an opportunity for questions, offering insight for music enthusiasts, students, artists and anyone curious about the meeting point of art, sound and engineering.
