Lyndoch Institute

Built in 1912, Lyndoch Institute can be leased or hired to host up to 285 people for a range of events.

The Federation style multipurpose hall, with 'art-deco' inspired additions, has hosted wedding receptions, engagement and birthday parties. It’s also been used for seminars, markets, dance and fitness classes, as well as concerts and performances, which make use of the large stage area.

A public meeting in 1906 resulted in local residents forming a committee to raise funds to build a hall for their community.

Following an approach by the committee, the Manager of the South Australian Company in Adelaide donated half an acre in the centre of town for "the Lyndoch Institute". The impressive new building, with its decorated parapet, was officially opened on 20 September 1912 by then Premier of South Australia, A.H Peake. Final cost was £1,000.

The hall found continuous community use, often for patriotic purposes during WWI. Post WWII, the committee modernised the front of the hall, as it looks today.

In 1972, the Lyndoch Institute and property were transferred to District Council of Barossa, which later amalgamated to form The Barossa Council. In 2009, Council raised funds to upgrade the hall, in particular the rear section. Up until then, all funds were raised by the community.

Today, Lyndoch Institute continues to be managed by a committee of local residents.
