Elected Member registers

Elected Members are entitled to an annual allowance set by an independent tribunal. They are provided access to facilities like a computer and support to assist them in carrying out their roles. In addition, Elected Members may apply for reimbursement of expenses incurred in the course of carrying out their roles, including, prescribed travel and child care. Our Elected Members’ Allowances and Benefits Policy sets out what these allowances and benefits are, and how they will be provided.

Elected Members are required by law to refuse any gift or benefit if:

• It is given in an attempt to influence, or
• If receiving it would, in the mind of a reasonable person, be perceived that it would prevent the receiver’s ability to act impartially.

For the purposes under Section 72A(4) - Register of gifts and benefits of the Local Government Act 1999 and published in the Gazette on 29 August 2013, any Gift or Benefit received must also be registered if its value is higher than $50.

Where a gift or benefit is permitted to be accepted by an Elected Member it will be recorded in the Register of Elected Members Gifts and Benefits.

Under the Local Government Act 1999, Elected Members, or their relations, must declare their interest. This means that they must declare any stake or involvement where, there may be a potential conflict of interest. For example, income sources or employer/s, political involvement, trade or professional membership or gifts exceeding $750. For more information please refer to our Register of Interests Policy.
